Hotel Leisure Taipei

The hotel’s on a quiet street, right across from a metro station, and the big corner room worked well for four people. Breakfast was a filling Taiwanese spread, though I wish the coffee had been fresh. There’s not much nearby besides a 7-11. The tub and shower setup is awkward, with steps deep enough to be a real hazard for seniors. We also had mosquitoes in both the room and lobby. There’s no heating in winter, so plan for that.

December 2023 update: I’m less sure we’d return. The room Wi-Fi was really poor, there were no outlets by the bed for phone charging, and we noticed a slight unpleasant smell in the room. There was also a sewer odor when we got off the elevator. Still no breakfast option, either, and no nightlight. On our earlier stay, we liked the clean, quiet, new-feeling hotel and convenient location. My wife loved the room layout, which they called a suite because a partition separated the bed from the desk and closet area. It had a small fridge, an enclosed shower, a comfortable bed, and good air conditioning. The room was upgraded to accommodate a handicap. Breakfast used to be free two years earlier. This time they said they weren’t offering it because of Covid, but suggested buying it from the coffee shop in the breakfast area. I’d rather they just say breakfast isn’t provided. Staffing was thin as well. The front desk was often empty, as it had been two years before, so we had to wait. One night it was about ten minutes.

Getting around is easy since the hotel is right in front of the MRT station, and outside noise is well blocked. Inside, though, you can hear corridor doors slam and sounds from other rooms. The mattresses and pillows were very comfortable. The Chinese-style bath has steps that could be risky for kids, and the Wi-Fi is slow. Breakfast is included as a buffet, but nothing special.

Hotel Leisure Taipei is handy for getting around, with both an MRT station and a rental bicycle stop nearby. I liked the outlook and the sunlight around the hotel, too. Everything felt easy to use except the hair-dryer.
