Meander 1948

The breakfast vouchers are a nice way to try some good meal options, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff are kind and know their stuff. It's a great hostel close to the main station. I also joined one of PJ's free guided tours, going with him and a lovely group of guests to the Maokong area. I really enjoyed it, and PJ gave me great suggestions for the rest of my time in Taiwan. Definitely recommend joining a tour.

The bedding, toilet, shower, and shared areas are all impressively clean, and for such an affordable place, the bed linens and blanket are especially comfortable. Guests are considerate about noise, and the staff are welcoming and helpful. They provide breakfast coupons and fresh towels daily, and the showers separate wet and dry areas. There are hair dryers and heated toilet seats too. This was my second stay in an 8-bed dorm at meander, and it remains the best dorm I've stayed in across countries. I keep recommending it to people visiting Taiwan and will be back. Thanks for another lovely stay.

The location is central to lots of local places, with Ningxia night market about a ten-minute walk away and the MRT just a block or two from the hostel. I spent eight days here and found it very affordable, especially as a solo traveler. The 8-bed dorm was comfortable, and the lounge was calm and peaceful. It was easy to meet great people who were traveling or studying abroad, and the staff were helpful with information. Meander 1948 also offered a free guided tour with PJ, one of their employees. You cover your own transport and meals, roughly under $500 TWD, about $16 USD, depending on what you spend that day. The company treated us to a tasty dessert snack at the end. The dorm beds and facilities were clean, and they gave us fresh towels each day. Staff took initiative and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and help with what we needed. I stayed four nights and was very satisfied. It's a little more expensive than nearby dorms, but I thought the higher standards of the other travelers made the extra cost worthwhile. They also gave food coupons for nearby partner shops, which were well worth visiting even without the discounts.
