Shihlin 13House

The floor flooded on our last night. At 2 AM, my partner woke me to find water pooled around the bed, making the floor slippery and unsafe. Towels that had been shoved behind the headboard and nightstand were completely soaked. We noticed the damp, moldy smell as soon as we entered Hotel Shihlin 13 House. It was so strong we kept the door open to breathe. The towels appeared to be catching water from a leak, which made the problem seem ongoing rather than a housekeeping mistake. I sent the manager a video of the flooding right away. He read the message but didn't reply. I only got a half-hearted apology the next morning after following up politely. Since the wet towels were already there when we checked in, it seemed they knew about the leak. There was no compensation, real apology, or effort to make things right. This was a moldy, leaky nightmare with terrible service, not a hidden gem. I wouldn't stay here again.

The only acceptable thing was the location, which I chose without knowing the Shilin area well. The toilet bowl was jammed from the first day and got worse on the second. When I told the owner, I was told to put up with it. The stand fan and fridge were broken too, and neither was replaced. There was no daily room cleaning, and the whole walkway to the rooms smelled strongly of smoke. A very badly maintained place and a very bad experience.

We had to change plans suddenly and book a Taipei room for one night, and after reading the reviews we were worried. The older lady who checked us in was friendly and helpful, though the process wasn't very efficient. The smoke smell mentioned in reviews wasn't very noticeable to us, and the place was clean and cosy, with a minimalist design rather than the rundown hotel we expected. We had enough amenities: towels, toothbrushes, soap, water, a kettle, fridge, tissues, and a fairly big TV. The location was good too, about a seven-minute walk to Shilin station, which felt quite central, with convenient bus stops nearby. Thanks for hosting us!

It was comfortable and clean, and it looks just like the pictures. The TV is really big too, and the Wi-Fi is good. It wasn't as bad as the other reviews made it sound.
