I left right away and had to ask Hotels.com, where I booked, to help start a refund. Luckily they assisted, and I found a room at City Suites hotel, a 2 minute walk away. I couldn't stay in either room here. Room 907 reeked of cigarettes, and opening the window for fresh air didn't help. The WiFi wouldn't connect, and after about ten minutes I had a headache. When I asked to switch rooms, the counter manager said none were available. I then asked to cancel, and was given a card for room 902, but it smelled so strongly of mold I couldn't even walk in. I arrived to find an old building and a rather dismal check-in counter. When I asked for a refund, I was told to contact Hotels.com. I should have read the reviews before booking. After reading them, I can completely understand the low ratings. DO NOT STAY HERE!
The location was genuinely convenient. We could walk to the convenience store across the street, the night market, the 101 building, and the train station. The room itself felt unclean: the floor was grimy, the bathroom smelled strange, and I realized the shower curtains hadn't been washed. The bedding was just okay. We booked through my credit card company because of a good deal, and I hadn't done enough research. The front desk wasn't what the photos had led me to expect, and the floor reeked of cigarettes through the vents, even though I thought we'd booked a non-smoking unit. I asked for clean towels during our four-night stay since we'd only been given two. The young man at the desk said twice, once in the evening and again the next morning, that he had no towels or toilet paper. I was frustrated, though I blamed it on the language barrier and him being part of the family business. A different person at the desk later got both for me. It was my first time in Taipei, and I was disappointed by how unclean the room felt. I've stayed somewhere worse, I guess, but I wouldn't return. The location is good.
Cindy at the front desk was especially helpful, even helping us communicate with local authorities in Mandarin. The staff were amazing throughout our stay. Our room was comfortable and quite decent, and it was convenient for getting to the station and night markets.
The room was filthy, old, and falling apart, and the toilet was tiny and uncomfortable. When we arrived, nobody was at the front desk, so we knocked on the counter. The person we'd woken up in the back got mad at us. The room phone didn't work, so we went to the lobby to ask for a spoon to stir coffee we'd bought outside. They rudely said they don't provide spoons. We even asked for one chopstick and were told to buy it ourselves. When we mentioned the broken phone, they blamed us and said we didn't know how to use it. The staff were disrespectful and lazy. This place is the WORST. STAY AWAY!
I booked five nights, but checked out as soon as I stepped inside. I've never come across such a terrible hotel while travelling. Don't trust the photos, and I wouldn't recommend staying here when a much better, newer hotel is available for a similar budget. The motel was old, rotting, and unhygienic. Water was always dripping from the facade, and the bedroom smelled stale, moldy, putrid, and foul. The floor was sticky, so I had to wear slippers at all times. When I raised it, staff said they'd never mopped the floor. I saw them using sticky roller tape to pick up dust from the rooms, which explained why the floor was left like that. They couldn't even afford a vacuum cleaner? I also found a cockroach in the bedroom. They charged me $200 for checking out 15 minutes late. I've never had that happen before, and I believe the staff member wanted to pocket the money.
