Taipei International Hotel

It's in a great spot for getting to lots of places, with easy access to buses and the MRT. The hotel is old, which I don't mind, but the carpet was extremely dirty and parts along the edges were lifted or missing, exposing the cement. The bedsheets were covered in lint when we arrived, and several shower tiles had cracks running up and down. Staff were almost never around, though check-in was quick. They also took a photo of our passport on a cellphone, which felt invasive. There are many other hotels in this area, and one may be a better choice for a stay in Taiwan.

There’s plenty to eat nearby, from Japanese and local spots to fast food, and pharmacies, convenience stores, plus a huge department store are all close too. Zhongshan Station is a short walk away, with an underground shopping connection to Taipei Main Station. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was big. The decor looks a little dated, but everything is well maintained. The staff were courteous and helpful, which made the stay pleasant. A good place to stay.

The food was decent, but the service was ridiculous when we came for a family dinner. I had to guide the staff through things most of the time. Some acted like robots doing the bare minimum, while others seemed like kids with no training. On our way out, the front desk staff were just as rude, staring blankly at my uncle while he repeated his question several times. Unbelievable. Only one person, who I assume was a manager, acted normally and could answer us. There are better duck restaurants nearby, so I doubt I'll return.
