The Landis Taipei

The staff and service were wonderful, and I’m not saying the hotel is bad. But the rooms feel very old, and the place seems more like a four-star stay than a five-star one. It also lacks some of the extra services I’d expect at five stars, such as room service. I booked a suite with breakfast, but during my seven-day stay there was always a huge queue from the host stand to the lobby entrance at the only breakfast restaurant. I never managed to eat there. The location is central Taipei, so getting around is fairly quick, though I definitely needed Uber. There’s not much nearby for dining, shopping, or leisure.

What made this one of our best experiences in Asia was the people. Everyone treated us so nicely and made our day. The place itself is nice and the breakfast is good, but the hospitality really stood out. Mr Lee and his colegue made our trip exceptional. Thanks to the hotel management for having such a lovely team. We can’t thank you enough!

The Landis Taipei feels quiet and intimate, with an understated, boutique atmosphere. The decor has Art Deco lines and warm wood, and the rooms have plush beds and bedside controls. The gym is on the top floor with a view, and Tien Hsiang Lo is a Michelin-starred Hangzhou restaurant. There’s also a business center. The hotel is spotless, from the marble lobby to the bathroom corners, and the linens and elevator brass look crisp and polished. It’s in Zhongshan District, with local eateries, convenience stores, and massage parlors nearby. Zhongshan Elementary School Station on the Orange Line is about a 5-10 minute walk away. The hotel combines old-world French style with Taiwanese hospitality, and the service is a highlight. Staff, including the doormen and concierge, are known for remembering names and preferences and often anticipating what guests need. For a five-star hotel, the price felt surprisingly reasonable, with high-end service and Michelin-star prestige. It seems like a good fit for couples seeking a romantic getaway or solo travelers who want a quiet, high-class stay with excellent food.

There’s a Family Mart and 7-11 nearby, and buses in both directions stop right outside. The MRT is an 8-10 minute walk away, which is the one drawback. Inside, my room was clean, quiet thanks to good soundproofing, and the hotel service was top notch. There are three restaurants in the hotel.
