The Riviera Hotel

The hotel’s location made getting around easy, with transport close by, an ATM nearby, and two stops to the night market and 101 tower. It’s also near the smaller airport, but the glazing kept the noise out. Staff from reception to the waiting team were extremely helpful. I liked the bedroom, especially the comfortable bed, which was a relief with my back problems. The shower and bath were good too, and the toilet was heated. I’d recommend it for access to the attractions.

We’ve stayed here twice and had a good experience both times. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with a decent amount of space, and the prices feel fair. Staff are friendly and speak English well. You’ll find restaurants, breakfast spots, pharmacies, and a night market nearby. There’s also a lovely rose garden when it’s in bloom. The MRT station takes about a 10-15 minute walk, depending on your pace.

The room had enough space for two, though we didn’t use all of it, and it came with the necessary supplies apart from one particular item. Service is mostly self-service, which seemed normal for Taiwan and didn’t cause any problems. I’d expected more from breakfast, but it was average and nothing stood out. Overall, the hotel was decent.

The location sits between two MRT stops, around a 10 or 15 minute walk away. In the room, the blackout curtains worked well and the street-facing window let in little noise. The main comfort issue was the pillows, which were so thin they offered almost no support. Water pressure was low, and once the hot water ran out while I was showering. The gym equipment was rusty and poorly maintained. The 7th-floor lounge looked nice, but its furniture felt wobbly and creaky. Housekeeping was wonderful and very helpful, though the front desk was a letdown. The night staff seemed undertrained and struggled with basic questions, often needing the more experienced doorman to step in. That was unexpected given Taiwan’s high standard of hospitality.
