The Tango Taipei ChangAn

I stayed here in January and thought the place was decent, so I brought my whole family of 15 back. This time was horrible. Our rooms hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly, and the bedside plugs didn’t work. The worst part was arranging a van to take us to the outlet before our airport trip. My sister had been told by reception the night before that a Benz Vito would cost 5000 NTD. When the car arrived, it was a Toyota Sienna. I said I wanted to rent it for four hours for 5000 NTD, and the receptionist neither corrected nor denied that rate. At the airport, the driver insisted it was 5500 NTD, shouted in the middle of the airport, and called the hotel. We could have paid the extra 500 NTD, but he made a huge fuss. The hotel then said over the phone that its rate was 5500 NTD and told us to pay. In the end, the driver got angry, shouted that it was fine, and left.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and greeted me often. I arrived around 2pm and they let me check in early. At checkout they surprised me with a thoughtful birthday gift box and wishes. The hotel is central and walkable, in a local area, about 15 minutes on foot from the airport MRT. My twin room was large, with a washer and dryer, microwave, free minibar, and four water bottles each day. The bed was comfortable and firm, but the soft pillows sank too much. The AC was adjustable, though at 23C or higher the room felt humid. The bathroom was Japanese style. The dark color scheme made the room feel dim and showed stains easily. The closet door was hard to move because the washing machine was in the way. Clothes were still damp after washing and drying, so needed to hang dry. There’s only one elevator for guests in the whole building, and waits could be long when it was busy. The other elevator is for staff and cleaners and doesn’t stop on the first floor. Don’t expect much from breakfast. It seemed geared more toward Japanese business men. There were natto in foam packs, hot dishes usually mixing vegetables with meat or seafood, American-style continental food, salad, congee with condiments, rice, vegetable soup, juices, coffee from a machine, and bread.

The city view and whirlpool tub in my room were amazing. Some amenities feel a bit dated, but the hotel stands out for its cleanliness and friendly staff. It exceeded what I expected, and I’d highly recommend it.

I found the room modern, spacious, and well equipped, and the location was good. The receptionists were very nice and attentive. I booked through trip.com and got a free Tesla airport transfer as part of the booking. The price was reasonable, though not cheap. I did notice some cigarette smell, but it wasn’t too bothersome, and they provided a machine to deal with the odor.
