Breakfast was a highlight: fresh, hot, healthy, and with a different menu each day. It leaned Asian rather than Western, which I preferred, and there was plenty of food and a great coffee machine. The room was a good size, had plenty of amenities, and passed my usual checks for cleanliness, bugs, and odors. The bed was firm but not hard. I could barely hear the TV with the AC running, though. For the price, it was still a great place, and I'd stay again. I was there for four days at the end of February 2026 for a shopping and food trip. I arrived around 23:00 after an 18-minute walk from A22 Laojie River Station, coming on the direct blue commuter train from the airport. I couldn't find the Benz hotel entrance at first. Someone pointed me to the Bentley hotel front desk, where both names, Bentley and Benz, are on the wall behind the clerks. Bentley had cost a little more when I booked, and since I was traveling alone on a budget, I chose Benz. After check-in, I was directed to the Benz elevator around the corner. The difference was noticeable: Benz has one small elevator, about 3 by 6 feet, while Bentley has two large, attractive ones. Taxis, trains, and bus stations were all close by and easy to reach on foot. There was a lot of construction on the street, and the surroundings could feel intimidating if you're not comfortable with that kind of area.

I've stayed here several times and recommended it to friends visiting Taiwan on a tight budget. It's cheap, and the rooms are more or less nice, with buffet breakfast. Last night I was driving back to Taipei, got sleepy, and stopped here for a few hours before continuing. The staff were rather rude, especially the man. He was judgmental and didn't help me. Maybe he looked down on me because I'm Black and a foreigner. Please try to treat everyone kindly, especially people checking in late when they're tired and sleepy. Being kind costs us nothing.

I checked in around 1am and was given a nice room. A couple of hours later, I noticed smoke coming from someone nearby and spreading into my room through the central air system. Their policy said they could charge 3500 NT if they detected smoke in a room, so at 3am I went to reception to complain. They moved me to another room, but there were cigarette ash marks and pubic hair on the bed, and no blanket. I managed a quick nap around 7:30am, then went back downstairs at 8am to ask for one. The AC smelled bad when I turned it off, while opening the window was too cold and noisy, so I'd slept with my clothes on. The receptionist said I'd have to wait until 8:30 because housekeeping wasn't there yet. I had to ask again whether I could go back to my old room and get its blanket for the new one. No greeting or good morning, and the staff were quite unreliable.

Even at a cheap price, I don't think this was worth it. When we arrived, the toilet water was dirty, so we had to wash ourselves with cold water. The plumbing seemed to have a problem: we had to leave the water running for an hour until the dirt cleared. I think the pipes are old and the water may have gotten dirty because the toilet hadn't been used much by guests. Other than the water and sanitation issue, everything was fine. They should pay more attention to the water. We struggled for an hour just to wash.

I really loved staying here. The room was elegant, clean, and comfortable, with a pretty bathroom and a very soft bed. I hope I can come back soon.
