Meng Jing Hotel

Even though the signs say no smoking, the rooms had a strong lingering smoke smell. I wonder who’s been smoking in them. I totally regret not reading the reviews before booking.

Known in English as Meng Jing Hotel, it’s within walking distance of the night market, with food easy to find and the Airport Line just 3-5 mins away on foot. It’s handy for a night before the airport instead of traveling all the way from Taipei, and you can explore the district too. The building lobby looked shabby, but inside the hotel felt fresh and brand new. The lift takes you straight to the self check-in machine on the 4th floor. It has the feel of a lover’s motel, but it was fun, and I saw many families with young children staying there. I gave cleanliness 3 rather than 4-5 stars because of a faint cigarette smell and a strange smell on the towels.

I had a bad night and couldn’t sleep at all because there were too many mosquitoes. I spoke to the staff today, and they helped me contact the service manager. They promised to provide mosquito killer. I also bought mosquito repellent.

The room looked tidy and bright, maybe recently renovated, but it was very dusty. The comforter was warm but stained, and I wasn’t sure about using the bottled water, so I bought some from a small shop downstairs. After swiping my card into the lobby, I noticed a strong mix of foot odor and instant noodles. Seeing two police officers in the hallway felt a little unsettling. Soundproofing was poor, and the footsteps from upstairs were very loud. I felt itchy all night from small things in the bed, on both the large and small beds. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t particularly like it either.
