Shangrila Boutique Hotel

The receptionists were friendly, and the lobby was pretty. There were complimentary activities, including cycling, though the bikes were broken, plus an evening cinema. The self-service coffee and biscuits in the lobby were a nice touch, but that lobby gave a false impression of the rest of the building. Outside, almost all the sun loungers were broken. The stair tiles were ugly and stained, and the garden was in terrible shape, with rusty swings, metal chairs, and pillars. That seemed especially dangerous for children. The hot spring pool, like the rest of the hotel, didn't look inviting. Our room was spacious, but the corridor leading to it smelled strongly of smoke, as if someone had smoked in the room. The bathtub was tiny. There were paint splatters on the floor, badly chipped wood on the fridge furniture, and a torn lampshade that could easily have been fixed with a little glue. This was after an upgrade, and I can't imagine what the room would've been like without it. The fire extinguisher by the elevator had been removed, which was a major safety concern. Earlier that week, six people had died in a building fire in Taichung. We reported the missing extinguisher, but it still hadn't been replaced when we left a day later. It seemed like they didn't care. The hotel looked rundown and badly in need of maintenance, though I could see its potential. It would take a huge amount of work. After such a disappointing stay, we realized it wasn't even part of the Shangri-la group and was just using the same name. We should've checked the website sooner. Stayed on March 2022

The overall stay was ordinary, and the hotel clearly feels a bit old, with slightly dim lighting. The parking lot road is very bumpy and uneven. The wedding banquet dishes were a little stale and the selection wasn't very rich.

I loved the printed furniture in the rooms and lounge, and the styling throughout this pretty boutique hotel is lovely. Walking by the chapel and deck in the morning made me want to linger and enjoy that laid-back feel of another era. The spa, hot spring fountains, and rental cycles are nice facilities too. I only wished there were a gym on the property. Aside from that, it felt a class apart. Hope this helps some of you 😊

There's enough to do after checking in, like fishing, cosplay, and the hot spring. I stayed one night, which felt about right, since I might've found it boring to stay longer. It's an old hotel with a boutique style. You can see its age, though I still found it nice and clean, as long as you don't count the aging as dirt. Dinner was great, with excellent dishes that felt made with care. Afternoon tea was a disaster, the high tea wasn't tasty at all, and breakfast was average. For the price, it's a nice place for a night.
