I spent most of my time relaxing outside on the sofa balcony, and the stay felt calm and easy. The beds and bedding were good quality, the shared spaces were comfortable, and there was lovely natural light in the morning. Both staff members were fantastic, and the owner generously upgraded my room. Shanjiu Shi x Shaoguang｜Fanzhalan has a gentle, natural look near Sun Moon Lake, with wood, white walls, and soft lighting. It really does look like a magazine cover wherever you take a photo. Clean and comfortable without feeling cramped, it's the kind of quiet, warm, thoughtfully designed guesthouse that makes you want to return.

The terrace was the best part for me. We sat in the autumn breeze watching maple leaves move in the trees, then had a rich bowl of ramen at the first-floor restaurant, where guests get 10% off. Sleeping in until noon before checkout felt like a rare luxury. The furnishings and bed were so comfortable that I'd happily return to Shanjiu Shi when I'm back in Nantou. I came looking for a quiet place to stay, and found the cement gray walls and floors soothing in a way I didn't expect. The restrained, warm design helped settle my scattered thoughts. There was a natural essential oil scent in the room, with oil sprays available too, plus birdsong and gentle sunlight. The bathroom has no door, which made me shy and a little uncomfortable at first, though it also gave the space an open, natural feel. The owner's distinctive design sense shows in the details, and even the corners were spotless. The thoughtful housekeeper made the stay feel like more than just a bed for the night, it became a real chance to unwind. Another unexpected part of the trip came after checkout. Shan Jiu Shi helped arrange transport, and a friendly older sister came along and shared some background while we chatted. She suggested going to Sun Moon Lake for SUP, and I was up for it. That's how we came across What SUP Pro. That afternoon, mist hung around the mountains and softened the lake into a dreamy scene. I couldn't capture the hazy view through my glasses in a photo, it was something you had to see in person.

The big bathtub in the room was what I liked most, and it came with face masks and aromatherapy oils for a relaxing soak. There was Netflix too. The Yamajima Shishao Kōbō B&B was clean and we had a very good stay. On the first floor, the minibar had unlimited cola, other soft drinks, instant noodles, and coffee, while upstairs there was a large, comfortable lounge. We brought fried chicken back from a nearby food street and ate it on the second floor instead of using the 10% dinner discount at the ramen shop downstairs. We had breakfast at the restaurant, which was comfortable, though you can also eat at the B&B. The downsides were no view to speak of and no bottled water in the room. Otherwise, we were satisfied.

I'd go back. The guesthouse was charming, quiet, and had delicious food, and the service was almost too attentive. They even knelt to help with check-in. There weren't many staff and one person was busy running errands, but nobody got impatient with guests, which is unusual. The shampoo and conditioner were so good I bought both, and the pillow spray smelled lovely, so I bought that too. I don't think they gave receipts, though.
