Lionsgate Hostel

We spent two nights here because our safari included the stay. The shared area was pleasant, with good WiFi and a chance to meet other travelers. Dinner was very good and cost 5000 TZS. The sheets looked clean enough. The room itself was extremely basic: no toilet paper, mirror, or trash bin, a broken toilet seat, and no hot water. The surroundings didn’t seem very appealing or safe for going out, though the owner can arrange transport and transfers. Power cuts happened often, and took out the WiFi, lights, and water. They seemed to be caused by the ongoing blackouts in Arusha.

Nelson and the staff were very friendly, and our room was clean. The included food was delicious, too. One night we had a lovely campfire and BBQ. They also arrange safaris. After comparing with other agencies in the city, we chose to go with him and had a wonderful four-day safari. Thanks, Nelson ✌️

Lionsgate is a welcoming place, thanks in large part to Nelson, who’s an amazing host. Dinner often turns into a chat over tea, and the hospitality really stands out. It’s a little outside the city center, but local transport makes it easy to reach. For backpackers hoping to meet people and save money, it’s a good option. You get working WiFi, hot water, a bed without bedbugs, traditional home-cooked dinner, and great service.

The staff are kind, and since the stay was included in our safari, that was a plus. The rooms are very basic and dimly lit, though. The bed sheets didn’t look very clean, and we had to ask for locks and towels. The swimming pool wasn’t usable because the water was green.
