The manager was a great help arranging affordable tours and excursions, and the staff were friendly. My room was clean, the bathroom was nice despite having limited warm water, and the AC worked well. For $5, breakfast on the rooftop was simple but very good. The WiFi was unreliable, and the woman at reception couldn't remember the password for the network that worked on my floor, so I used mobile data. Amenities were sparse, with only a bar of soap in the bathroom. They don't serve alcohol, which is a shame since a nightcap on the rooftop would be nice. It's affordable, clean, and friendly, but missing a few comforts.

The rooms were spacious, with comfortable beds and clean linen, though a bit dated. The bathrooms were a 5/10. Our room was on the second floor, and there’s no lift in the building. I don't think any of the buildings have lifts. Overall, I'd rate our stay 7/10 and would come back if I had the chance. The location is excellent and the staff are very friendly. Jummah helped me and took care of all my needs. Breakfast was served on the roof terrace, with fruit, tea or coffee, cereal, eggs or omelette, fresh juice, and some cakes. The staff were also kind enough to keep my cooler bag in their freezer.

The location is the one good thing, though there are plenty of better-value places to stay in Stone Town. The photos look nice, but the actual place was disgusting and really disappointing. It smells bad, needs renovation, and I slept terribly, so prepare your back. Bring your own towels, I doubt theirs have ever been washed. The staff were unfriendly and made me feel unwelcome. I made sure to spend as little time as possible in that sh..hole. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The hardwood floors, beautiful glass windows, and amazing wooden staircases give this place a real sense of history. Walking in feels like stepping back into true Zanzibar. It has all the basics I needed, including air conditioning, comfy beds and pillows, fans, hot water, and spacious bathrooms. And for the price, what a deal. We stayed somewhere else on the way into Stone Town and here on the way out. I wish we'd spent both nights here. Fantastic and unbelievable, why isn't it the top hotel in Stone Town?
