Mustapha' s Place

The pool was a highlight for me, with different depths, though I wish the fountain had been on and there were more loungers. I also liked the hammocks and all the places to sit around the property. The beach is close, too. We stayed in a shared-bathroom room. The bathroom was lovely, but our room was dark and cramped, with the bed down a step, which made it feel a bit like a hovel. It was definitely a squeeze for two. Our friends' ensuite rooms were much nicer. Most staff were friendly, although one had an attitude. A few simple requests got eye rolls and made me feel like I was asking for the moon, which was uncomfortable. We were there for New Year's Eve, and the live music was only a few meters from my bedroom. Some guests enjoyed it, but it was much too loud for me and I couldn't get away from it, so it spoiled the evening I had planned. I wish we'd known about it when booking. The water was astonishingly expensive: $1 to refill one liter from a refillable tank, and it wasn't even cold. Everywhere else I've stayed in Zanzibar, water was free. The food wasn't particularly good either, and seemed a bit overpriced for what it was. Still, I had a nice stay.

There are swings in a cute little playground, and the place has a real sense of adventure. The pool is beautiful, with lots of greenery around it. The restaurant food was OK. Those placemats should just be thrown away, because I don't see how they can be cleaned.

The map roads don't match what's actually there, so you have to keep looking for the sandy road to Mustapha place. Once there, it's a cute, colorful, private spot with a reggae feel, hammocks, and a sense of peace and love everywhere. It's plastic-free. I'd recommend it 100%.

The open-air restaurant served good food, and the pool was lovely for relaxing. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The huts sit in a gorgeous garden with flowers, palm trees, and white beach sand. Such a wonderful atmosphere, it felt heavenly.
