Kijiji Beach Resort

Lovely ocean views and a really peaceful setting, but service was extremely slow. There's also a Tsh5000 entrance fee, paid in cash, whenever you come in, no matter how much you spend on food and drinks.

The garden was lovely, but the rest of the complex felt very dated. The photos also seem edited and enhanced. My first room had an entrance door that didn't work, so I was moved the next morning. That evening I found there was no hot water in the new room. I was told someone would fix it in five minutes, but nobody showed up. I got another room the following day. On weekday afternoons, the power went out for about 2-3 hours, which meant no internet. Fresh bedding was only provided if I asked, and breakfast eggs were limited to two. I won't be coming back.

It was quiet and peaceful, and I can recommend the resort for that. The food, beach and staff were its best parts. Rooms are simple but comfortable and clean. I had trouble with the AC remote, which kept breaking, and the shower drain was clogged, though they fixed that quickly. The pool didn't look clean enough, so I didn't use it. The spa was inexpensive, but my paid one-hour massage lasted only 40 minutes, so I wouldn't say it's worth a visit.

We chose Kijiji for the beach, pool and a decent room where we could relax during a long layover in Dar es Salaam. My wife and I stayed for just 12 hours by choice. The grounds were nice, and the rooms were roomy, with high ceilings, great A/C and boma-style architecture. The wifi was great too. You can tell the place has some age, though the location is excellent. A taxi to the hotel cost $35. We checked in early and waited about an hour for our room, which wasn't the hotel's fault. Just so you know, locals and day visitors also come to use the pool, restaurant and beach, so it can get crowded quickly. Grab a seat before you end up on the sand. The food was good, but took a long time to arrive.
