Varadero Zanzibar Hotel & Restaurant

Breakfast was amazing, with something different each day and everything so tasty. I stayed 12 nights, 28 years old, female, solo travel, and had a pleasant stay. The staff were kind and welcoming, and cleaning was great. When you hand in your key for the day, they ask whether you'd like the room cleaned. I found the memory foam bed comfortable. There were hours without electricity, but that affected the whole area and wasn't something the hotel or staff could control. The bathroom could use renovation, but everything worked, and it was clean with no insects. The room had AC and ventilation, plus a small refrigerator that could be plugged in. Thank you.

The staff were really nice, but the room and hotel were pretty shit. I waited over an hour for the room to be ready, and once inside I found gaps under the door and at the windows that let in lots of mosquitoes. I couldn't sleep properly. None of the room lights worked except the bathroom light. There were no toiletries, so I had to ask for them, and the wifi didn't work.

This might work if you're on a budget, can overlook a lot, and won't spend much time there, but it won't suit everyone. The room smelled musty, probably because of the concrete beds. The mattress wasn't firm and the sheets were thin. AC and hot water were available, and it was nice to have a balcony. Housekeeping doesn't seem to come unless you ask for the room to be cleaned. Staff seemed meek and aloof, though that could be a communication issue. Depending on your booking, you might end up here after reserving Sunseabar, or vice versa.

We lasted two nights, though we'd booked two weeks, and I booked somewhere else after the first night. The room was tiny and they kept us waiting two hours while they cleaned it, though it felt like it had been out of order and was being cleaned up. The cleaning product smell was overwhelming when we got in. The bathroom floor was wet, water leaked from the toilet pipe, and once the cleaning smell faded, a horrible bathroom odor took over the room. The AC didn't work and had a bird's nest inside it. The refrigerator was broken, the toilet seat was loose and too small, and the old mattress was worn out. Ants came in through the door. Terrible experience from the moment we arrived.
