Basecamp Mafía Island

The food was a highlight for us, with fresh, delicious meals, plenty of variety, and lovely flavors. Basecamp Eco Lodge is also beautifully kept, calm, and full of character, with a design that sits naturally in its surroundings. Our room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up with what we needed. From the minute we arrived, the whole team made us feel welcome. Everyone was kind, attentive, and genuinely hospitable, and the service and setting came together so smoothly. It was easy to slow down, relax, and feel connected to Mafia Island’s special spirit. We had a wonderful, unforgettable stay and would gladly recommend Basecamp Eco Lodge to anyone looking for somewhere peaceful and authentic with warm hospitality. Thank you to everyone who made it so memorable. We hope to return.

The beach is very close, which made the hotel's location especially convenient, and our spacious room had all the amenities we needed. The staff were helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived. We also enjoyed the food, including the vegetarian choices, and the team was always willing to find vegan options for us. It was easy to arrange the next day's dives and trips because the local diving center works with the hotel and comes there in the evening. The massages were excellent too, a relaxing part of the day. The whole place had a lovely holiday feel, and we enjoyed every minute of our vacation.

We had a great stay and would gladly come back. The team were lovely and helpful, and the pool and beach bars were fantastic places to relax. The rooms were comfortable and air conditioned, with great amenities. That Mercedes Benz showerhead deserves a mention too 🤣 We chose this place because it is right next to Dive Planet, which worked perfectly for diving in Mafia. The food was disappointing, though, and cost it a star. It felt especially off seeing the staff wear "good food happy mood" shirts when we didn't think the food was very good. Chef Pamela nearby is a better option, though I'm sure the food here could improve.

The service was ultra friendly, and the lodge itself was peaceful, quiet, exotic, and relaxing. Probably the best lodge in Tanzania. Book as many sea activities as you can, you won't regret it. And don't miss the massage, or you'll wish you hadn't!
