Fig Tree Residences

The rooftop restaurant’s food was very good, and breakfast had plenty of homemade dishes. I spent four weeks here in March 2024 and had a great stay. Set among large, lovely trees, the place feels like an oasis. My room was comfortable and recently renovated, with kitchen amenities. The staff and owner were so friendly that I’d happily stay here again.

The rooms are a good size, with enough space to move around, and the rooms and shared areas have been refurbished. There’s a pool, a small gym, and a rooftop bar and restaurant. Breakfast is a good buffet each day. It’s a quiet, tucked-away gem. If you enjoy seeing birds or fruit bats up close, the fig trees draw them for a couple of weeks each year while the fruit is ripe. Teresa and her team are really helpful with arranging trips and know a lot about the area.

The staff at Fig Tree were fantastic, from the front desk and wait staff to the cleaning crew. Everyone was professional, friendly, and ready to help. I stayed there for six weeks, from July to August, while working in Dar, and Fig Tree accommodated me for the whole visit. I was in a first-floor studio. It was cleaned daily, and the AC worked great. The kitchenette came with a fridge, utensils, and pots, but for some reason there was no stove. Staff could provide a portable cooker or electric stovetop on request. I didn’t cook, so it wasn’t an issue for me. The food was amazing. My favorites were Roast Chicken, Beef Samosa, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Shrimp Fried Rice. Sleep was generally good. One neighbor did blast their TV until 1am for a few nights, but that was the only noise problem. The internet went out a few times, then came back within minutes, and the speed was enough for streaming and FaceTime. The room outlets are Type G (UK Style), so you’ll need a travel adapter, though the outlet by the desk had a NA style plug. Laundry was complimentary and usually came back the same day. In my six weeks there, that didn’t happen only 1-3 times, which wasn’t a problem for me. The grounds had good lighting, a main gate, and GardaWorld security on duty 24/7. It’s a great location, within walking distance of Slipway Hotel/Shops, Seacliff Village, a grocery store, and plenty of restaurants and bars. I enjoyed my stay and would come back.

Teresa made sure we enjoyed our stay, and the staff were always willing to help. My daughter got so many treats that she didn’t want to go home! The place felt like a home away from home, with spotless rooms and very modern decor. It’s peaceful and quiet, yet close to the road for a good walk. The food was delicious and affordable, and the fresh fruit juices were so refreshing. I’ll definitely stay there again when I’m back in Dar. Keep it up!
