Tan-Swiss Lodge

Tan Swiss Lodge has a big, peaceful setting just a short drive from Mikumi National Park. We had a wonderful stay. The rooms were nice and there was a good pool, plus a nice, inexpensive restaurant. There were several families staying here, so it also works well for a family vacation.

Being able to book a safari right at the lodge was really convenient. They picked us up and brought us back, and a packed lunch was available for the trip. We enjoyed the place enough that we stayed on the property the whole time apart from the safari. The restaurant, food, and pool were fantastic, and the staff were incredibly friendly. When we were leaving, they even arranged for the public transport bus to stop at the accommodation, so we didn't have to walk to the bus stop with our luggage. The service was top-notch, the rooms were great value, and everything was lively and well maintained. That's a refreshing change from many Booking listings in Tanzania where things are broken or poorly maintained. We had an amazing stay!

The only problem we ran into was low voltage. I was told that's common in the area. Still, I'd highly recommend staying here, and I definitely plan to come back. The staff were so quick and efficient, coordinating to make sure everyone got food on time. My family and I had an amazing experience: the rooms were neat, clean, and very spacious, with a great pool and lots of food choices. The service was quick too. Kudos to team TAN SWISS.

We'd driven from Dar, so we'd called ahead to make sure our two rooms would be ready for our family of four after the long trip. The staff were kind and helpful, but Josef, the manager/owner, was dismissive and rude, with what felt like hints of racism. The AC wasn't working in one room. When we told him, he denied there was a problem and said, “you guys are from India and it’s hot there so you must be used to the heat”. We visited in the hot summer months, when air conditioning was a necessity. Indians who can afford international travel can also afford air conditioning at home. We asked for an extra mattress in the room where the AC worked. He wasn't keen to help and only agreed after a while of bickering. During that, he told us we could leave and find somewhere else if we weren't happy with the accommodation. I understand this is a remote lodge and an AC mechanic may not be available at a moment's notice, but the owner's lack of hospitality and rude behavior really dampened our trip.
