Wag Hill Lodge and Spa

The rooms were excellent and so was the food. Some things weren't available, including fishing and a few menu items, but I still recommend this excellent place.

A peaceful eco-lodge surrounded by greenery, with stunning views of the lake. The accommodation was comfortable, the food was good, and the calm atmosphere made it a great place to rest and relax.

A quiet, unusual spot with a great view of Lake Victoria. You can visit the zoo and see animals including zebras, giraffes and ostriches, among others. There are plenty of pools for swimming, plus rooms if you want to stay. You can also eat at flamingo restaurant or spend time at zebra lounge and cafe, with a cafe there too. 🔥😮‍💨

The view was the one real highlight, but you can find the same one at other restaurants, cabins and hotels in Mwanza. I was excited to visit, and left feeling it was completely overrated. We'd booked a cottage with a private pool, but it was hidden in the dark and the pool was dirty. We asked for a nicer room and were told none were available. Then I checked online and saw one open for booking, and suddenly they found it and moved us. Even at 120€/330,000 Tsh, the tent was underwhelming, with no basic bathroom supplies like soap. Service was practically nonexistent. We waited two hours for coffee. They didn't have cappuccino, so we ordered one black and one white coffee. When it came, we realized that mixing the two basically makes a cappuccino, so I don't know what the issue was. The food took 2 hours and 45 minutes, and no one came to check on us. Staff were sitting around or said they were “busy” when we asked. The meal was disappointing. I've had rooftop dining elsewhere and expected better. The juices weren't fresh either, just regular juice mixed with ginger. About four hours later we wanted to pay and go to our room, but they had no change, so we paid by card rather than wait longer. I'm used to long waits for food in Tanzania, but this was a joke. After swimming, my hair felt oily and waxy. The pool seemed unclean, probably from residue left by people who oil their hair before swimming. I can still feel the wax in my hair even two weeks later. It was a deeply disappointing experience, and I'd much rather have spent the money on a quality hotel or a nice dinner elsewhere. If it hadn't been so frustrating, it would've almost been laughable.
