Kilimani House

The food was spectacular, and the houses are amazing, set in beautiful surroundings. Isaac and the rest of the people gave us wonderful care, keeping an eye on us from the moment we arrived. I’d definitely recommend it!

I’ve stayed at Kilimani House three times now because I love it so much. The family home has a lovely mix of local and European touches, and I especially like that they built much of it themselves using local methods and environmentally friendly ideas like the water tank. There’s also an adorable little boy. It’s set among lush greenery on top of a hill, so it’s quiet and has nice views. You’re outside the village, but still only a few minutes from the beach and centre. After a night out, a motorbike taxi gets you home quickly. Santos makes the best breakfast I’ve had in Tanzania, with some fruit from their own garden, and Juma can arrange a taxi whenever you need one. When I visited five years ago, the area was less developed. There are now more houses around, so the lighting at night is better, and electricity has been installed, which means there are fans. In low season it doesn’t get very hot here, and there’s a nice breeze.

The house was so comfortable, I could see myself living here. It was great to sleep and wake up to a jungle view, and the Wi-Fi was the fastest in town! The property is peaceful and beautiful, and the house was clean. Be careful on the drive in, though. We managed fine in a small car, a Toyota IST.

Juma and Santos, the owners, made us feel right at home. The house sits on top of the hill, so we didn’t even need a fan or AC. Such a lovely place, and the best breakfast in Sansibar, with fresh fruit from their own garden :)
