Chokoro House

I felt safe the whole time as a solo traveler, and the place was such good value. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful, the rooms were spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated, and I really enjoyed the pool and the small patio outside each room. I hadn’t thought I’d need a pool, but it was a lovely quiet spot to get away from the beach boys. Breakfast was great too. I’d been skeptical about Zanzibar hotels because so many reviews seem fake, but my worries turned out to be unfounded. If you’re in Paje, stay here.

The accommodation is lovely and quiet, but the air conditioning failed for three of our four nights. We told the staff each day, and they didn’t respond until the third day. That alone wouldn’t have been a big issue, but they firmly refused to give us a refund.

The pool was lovely and cleaned every day, and breakfast was brilliant. The staff were fantastic, and the hotel was peaceful. The rooms were lovely too, with great air conditioning and a fridge. Hard to find anything to fault.

We had a really good stay at chokoro. The food was always delicious, and you can have it brought to your room. The water pressure and taste were good, though the water isn’t drinkable. Rooms were tidy and very clean. There’s laundry service, but I’d use the main street instead since it costs half as much. The towels had been washed but still often looked dirty and had flaws. That didn’t bother us much, though there wasn’t a hook to hang them up to dry. For the beach, you can use NDAME resort, but if you want a poolside deck chair there, you have to order from the menu. I’d give the accommodation 9/10.
