The hotel was lovely, even though it wasn't easy to reach, and when the weather cooperates you can see Kilimangiaro. There were just two of us dining there that evening, so they arranged a candlelit dinner for us. The meal was supreme. It was the top hotel experience I've ever had.

We made two separate two-night stays at Kigongoni. The food was good, and our room was spacious. The property sits on a small hill, with plenty of plants and flowers and a relaxing feel. Some of the higher-numbered rooms, such as #8 and beyond, are lower down the hill, so getting to reception, the dining area or pool means walking uphill.

The houses are really nice and comfortable, and the food is tasty and homemade. It's a safe place with very friendly people working there. I hope I can return someday with my family.

Claudia and Sander, the managers, are the best. This is one of the most hospitable places I've been, and a perfect spot to relax before or after climbing Kilimanjaro, going on safari, or simply reading a book.

We ended up staying a few extra days after being evacuated from Kilimanjaro because of illness. It didn't take long for us to settle into doing nothing, or doing a few things very slowly. Pole pole means slow down in Swahili, and Hakuna matata means it's cool. We stayed cool and took it slow. With no TV or distractions, this was just the right place to relax and enjoy doing nothing. I love it here.
