Mrusi House

Breakfast was okay, with enough to get by for a very short stay. The place is right in the center, which was handy, but the room we had on the first night was old and had broken things in it. It also didn't look like the photos. For the second night they moved us upstairs to a much better room that more or less matched the pictures. Still, I'd put the overall experience at about 2.5 stars, no more.

The staff were kind, and I liked the breakfast and how close the place is to the sea. The room itself was a letdown: it didn't look like the photos, the bed was broken, and there was a lot of moisture. I wouldn't stay here again.

Mwana was so patient with all our requests as vegetarians, and gave us helpful tips for the island. The service was the best part of the meal. We ordered two falafel, hummus and mocktails. The hummus was delicious and unusual, with Zanzibar spices, and the mocktail was nicely presented with a great flavor. The falafel were tasty and well cooked, though a little small, and came with a good serving of salad. Good quality food, fair prices, and we'd definitely come back.

Iddi and Ali made our stay especially memorable. The staff at Mrusi House are hands-on and really warm with guests. It was the best holiday experience I've ever had.
