The breakfast portions were huge and really tasty, served in a stylish courtyard. We were there for bed and breakfast, and a talented musician played in the courtyard on our first of two nights. I especially want to mention Daudi, Helen, Elia and Eliyada (apologies for any incorrect spelling). It’s a beautiful little hotel with welcoming staff. We had as much water as we needed, the air conditioning worked, the beds were comfortable, and it was quiet while we were there.
The room was very pretty, and breakfast was nice, but we left after one night for the Zanzibar Serena because we didn’t have a pleasant stay. The air conditioning in the third room still didn’t work well, and it was very warm. It was a small AC for the room size, and they shouldn’t be cutting corners there. When we arrived, the room we’d booked wasn’t available because its occupant had checked out late. They proposed putting us in another room for one night, then moving us the next day. I said I was fine staying in that new room for all four nights, but they said it wasn’t possible because someone else was checking into it the following day. Four days counts as a long stay in Stone Town, so they could have been nicer to us. The guest who stayed late and the next guest got a smooth stay, while we were bounced around. I wonder why they treated us differently. The room they first gave us had no working AC, so we had to move a third time. It also had no phone, which meant going to call them every time about the AC. Staff seemed oddly indifferent through all of this, and didn’t say a word when we left.
The room was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. I really appreciated being allowed to check in early. When I was leaving with a big suitcase, I asked for a taxi to the port and the driver wanted $15. The receptionist also thought that was ridiculous, found a solution by motor, and kindly suggested a staff member could carry my bag. Breakfast needs work. It took 45 minutes, even though I asked them to put everything on the table so I could start my day. The granola was cornflakes and muesli with a lot of what I assume was maple syrup. The vegetables were drowned in sauce, the special of the day wasn’t available, and vegan options were limited. Still, I highly recommend the place.
The food at the hotel restaurant was probably the best we had on our whole vacation. The people were lovely, the place was beautifully decorated, and it was very quiet. The staff were accommodating and very personal, with world-class hospitality. I much prefer boutique hotels like this to big resorts. It felt like a beautiful oasis in the middle of Stone Town, with a backyard like paradise. If you want to indulge while you’re in town, this really is a perfect place. It’ll be my first choice if I ever return.
The people working here made the stay special. Every team member was professional, warm, kind, and a joy to talk to. They made it easy to connect with them and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We had a fantastic stay at Sharazad Wonders Boutique Hotel in Stone Town. The food was excellent, full of flavor and beautifully presented, so it’s well worth eating here. The rooms are charming and thoughtfully designed, balancing coziness with style. The location is handy for exploring Stone Town, while still feeling like a calm break from the bustle. There’s also a hidden gem inside the hotel, the boutique, with a stylish range of fashion and accessories that stands out from the usual tourist shops. The pieces show care in their mix of local flair and global taste. The Sharazad team also has another gem, a beach resort in Jambiani on the island, which is equally amazing. This hotel is a real delight, and I can’t recommend it enough.
