Mamdali Hostel

We had a balcony room looking onto an inner courtyard, and noise wasn't an issue. The hotel is full of character and beautifully decorated, with a lovely pool, comfortable beds, and helpful staff. It's in a great location too. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of interesting choices and a beautiful terrace view. They serve dinner as well, though there's no alcohol.

The location is handy, but it was noisy all night. The place has character, though it doesn't come close to four-star standard. Our room was badly kept and so dirty we couldn't walk barefoot. The bathroom was just as bad, with mould and dirt, and the murky swimming pool was out of use. The advertised “rooftop bar” isn't there. It's just a few chairs scattered across an otherwise empty terrace.

The views were incredible, the rooms clean and comfortable, and the food fantastic. The people were amazing, the service felt five-star, and the location was perfect. It's a gorgeous hotel with a distinctive historic feel, and I loved staying here. Definitely worth the money.

There's room to improve the bathroom, which was humid and stuffy and needs a proper renovation. Aside from that, I had a pleasant stay: the beds were comfortable, breakfast had a good variety, and the staff were warm and friendly. Wi-Fi worked well throughout the hotel. The seafront setting is excellent and makes it convenient to explore Stone Town. A good hotel in a fantastic location.
