The rooftop terrace was the highlight for me: breakfast with a view of Zanzibar harbour and the busy fish market is a memory I'll keep. Malindi Guest House has a lot of character and a historical feel, which made it a nice change from a generic luxury hotel. It's about a five-minute walk from the ferry terminal, right in Stone Town, so the narrow lanes and nearby night market are easy to reach. The beds were comfortable, the views were lovely, and the welcome was real. For the price, the value is hard to beat. I met my fiancé there, and she loved every minute. Every place has ups and downs, but this one is mostly good, and the owner helped us more times than I can count. I can't wait to return.

We had a genuinely good stay at Malindi Guest House. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable, and the staff are warm and welcoming. The building has real Zanzibar character, and its location makes it easy to explore Stone Town's historic sites and winding lanes. It's an affordable place with local charm, so you feel you're getting an experience with some personality instead of just standard tourist lodging. For the price, I have no complaints. A great choice for budget travellers who want somewhere distinctive without spending a lot.

The map pin is in the wrong place, and inside it smelled bad and looked mouldy. We had booked two separate rooms, but they said they could only see one reservation. It felt as if they wanted me to stay there without my male guide. We felt unsafe and left, but they wouldn't accept the cancellation.

The location is close to the ferry and everything else is within walking distance, but that didn't make up for the experience. Our booking wasn't in their system when we arrived, even though we'd called the day before. The staff were rather unfriendly, and several people tried to cheat us on the price. We didn't want to spend even one night there.

I booked a single room but was put in a shared room with four beds, and they charged me too much for it. The room smelled bad and the shower didn't work properly. This is unacceptable. I expect an immediate refund of the price difference.
