The bathroom was poorly maintained, with a blocked sink and no soap or toilet tissue, and the place generally felt less clean than we expected. At check-in, a staff member seemed to be under the influence of alcohol, which made us uncomfortable. These issues affected our comfort throughout the stay. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

We ended up finding somewhere else to stay because we didn’t feel comfortable with the safety and condition of this place. The hallway was narrow, and a large desk blocked the way to the only fire escape door. The communal kitchen was dirty and cluttered, with a staff member sleeping on a mattress there. Our sink was blocked, there was no hand wash or toilet tissue, and breakfast wasn’t available. The property also wasn’t clean overall, and basic health and safety seemed to be neglected. At check-in, staff appeared visibly intoxicated. The next morning, a woman arrived with police and accused a specific staff member of theft. It was distressing to see the staff member taken into custody by local authorities. Our stay at Sultan House Zanzibar was appalling, and I strongly advise against staying there.

The room had plenty of space, and the accommodation worked really well for our group.

The service was nice, and the accommodation was good. Malik gave me a lovely tour around stonetown, and the customer care was good too.
