The rooms are spacious and have high ceilings and AC. The building is an old colonial mansion converted into a hotel. To get to the nearby square from the main road, about 75m away, you have to take an unlit, unpaved path. After rain, there are puddles and slippery mud to navigate. Food is limited to a basic breakfast. A couple of the receptionists were helpful, though not all of them, and the lady serving breakfast was helpful too. On a couple of days, the water was off for a few hours during the day, so we couldn’t shower or flush the toilet.
Breakfast on the terrace was a nice touch. We had to leave early, so when we asked for something to take along, they gave us fruit and eggs. The staff were very kind, and the laundry was cheap. Our room was spacious and clean, with air conditioning, a great mattress, bedside tables, and sockets right by the bed. There was only one towel and no mat outside the shower. It can be hard to find, and the area felt a little sketchy. Some staff, maybe the night team, didn’t speak English. Still, a nice place.
For the price, this hotel is a good deal, with friendly staff, well-kept rooms, and air conditioning that works properly. I slept well on the bed, and the really soft pillows were a particular highlight. The showers could do with renovation, though that’s understandable at this price. The rooftop has lovely views on three sides, and it feels like a missed chance that it hasn’t been made into a café or lounge.
The staff were the best part for us, so helpful and kind. We got a great price, and the room was comfortable, with air conditioning and a comfy bed. It’s well placed for walking around the old town. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.
We found the local setting an interesting way to blend in. There’s a mosque beside the hotel and a local market nearby, and most people were polite and went about their business. It’s a 10-15 minute walk to the beach and port. The hotel is in a maze of lanes, so finding it from the pin can take some effort, and not every airport driver knows it unless you arrange transport through reception. Some alleys have no streetlights. Walking back at night felt safe to us, though you should stay alert. We arrived at 4am and checked out at 3am. There was reception cover for both times, as long as you let them know. Most staff were polite and helpful. They prefer cash, but do have a card machine. Our double room had an ensuite bathroom, a bidet, hot water, towels for two, and hand soap, but no other toiletries. Bottled water was complimentary. There was a fridge, though no kettle, cups, or free tea and coffee. The bed was comfortable and had a mosquito net. It’s a tidy, basic budget hotel. Breakfast on the rooftop was simple but decent, with toast, egg, fruit, juice, and coffee or tea. The building has simple decor and no lift. We were on the third floor. Wi-Fi was decent, the keys were old-fashioned, and other guests were quiet and respectful. It was worth the price, and I’d recommend it to someone looking for a simple, budget stay.
