Bilovoddya Hotel

A pleasant spot to unwind while visiting Ouj National Park.

The river is nearby, and the locals are friendly. Still, our one-night stay felt more like we were visiting the owner than staying at a hotel.

The hosts offered breakfast, with scrambled eggs, pancakes and jam, plus tea and coffee. There were also bikes, wall shooting, and hikes in the mountains, and Principa enjoyed everything. It’s a small family-run place in a scenic spot with mountains, a river and fresh air. Our room was clean and the atmosphere pleasant, though sound carried easily through the hotel. The bathroom had soap, shampoo and a towel, but no slippers or robe.

The owner's wife was the one bright spot for me. She seemed sweet, kind and decent, unlike her husband. The rest of the stay was awful. The host was surly and unfriendly, cursed in front of guests, and came across as rude and clueless about hospitality. We had to keep asking for basics like a hairdryer, dishes and cutlery. The listing showed a shared kitchen with photos, but there was nothing there to cook with, and the advertised washer and dryer were missing. We found just one packet each of shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom. The price list mentioned a “Transfer to Uzhgorod” service, but when I asked, the owner laughed and said he wouldn’t drive us to the city, so we should find a taxi ourselves. Beyond the grid on the booking page and the barbecue price list, there was nothing. Nobody offered excursions or hot tub baths. Peace and quiet only seemed possible at night, with the room door locked. The owner's child was constantly underfoot all day, and the parents seemed unconcerned about her disturbing other guests. They apparently expected everyone to entertain someone else’s child. The menu was mostly unavailable, around 80% of it. We weren’t offered anything beyond the modest breakfast included in the room price, even though I said right away I’d pay if the listed prices were current. Luckily, there was a small nearby shop with a very friendly saleswoman, so we managed to find reasonably decent food. I’d planned to rent bikes, but when I saw them, they were in such terrible, neglected shape that I was speechless. They should have paid us to ride them. If we could have rated this below one star, we would have. For that kind of money, the owners should be kinder, more attentive and at least smile at their guests. I hope this helps anyone thinking of staying here reconsider.
