Dream Hostel Kyiv

I paid 545 even though the website listed 340. Reception said the extra was for service, but the charges felt unfair, and for me it's about honesty, not the money. On the first day, I paid less for a 3x room, though that also had an extra charge. The next day I moved to a 6x room, which should've been cheaper, and paid more than I had for the 3x room. This happened especially when they saw my German passport.

I had a great stay in this lovely building tucked into a courtyard. The staff were incredible, and my private room with its own bathroom felt as comfortable as a hotel, for a very reasonable price. The on-site restaurant is amazing too. One small thing: while the restaurant is open, the seating nook by reception becomes part of it, so hostel guests can't use it as a shared space to sit with their own food and drinks in the evening. Still, I loved the place and will definitely come back to Kyiv.

During air raids, people would gather, sing, and share drinks. It was a real moment of solidarity in the middle of all that chaos. This was a fantastic central base during the war, especially for meeting others in the NGO community and exchanging stories. It offers good value, plenty of meal choices, and shared facilities that work well if you prefer to cook for yourself. There are private rooms as well as cheaper shared ones. Bring a head torch, though, because power cuts happen often.

I spent a week here on holiday in April 2025 and came back again in October 2025, so I'm changing my review to five stars. Dream Hostel isn't some dream place, and I did miss having somewhere to hang my wet jacket. But you meet so many good people here, which is the real dream. The staff are friendly, and I'd definitely return.
