Heart Kiev Apartments

I proposed here, so this place will always mean a lot to my wife and me. They had no trouble putting us on the top floor, as I asked, and the town view was awesome. The room felt a bit small by American standards, but it was very clean, and the staff were welcoming and helpful with anything we needed. The walls don't block much sound, though, and I sometimes heard couples being noisy in bed in the middle of the night. Laundry is available for a small fee. Other than that, everything was great, and prices in Kiev felt pretty cheap to us Americans.

The service was really friendly, and the WiFi worked great. There's a water cooler at reception, which was a nice extra, and my clean room had all the basics. It's a simple hotel on a high floor of a regular apartment building, with an elevator. The thin walls were my only real issue. I happened to have very loud neighbors on my first night and could hear every word they said.

This is more like a small reception on the sixth floor of a residential building than the kind of hotel with a bar or restaurant, and there's no breakfast. Finding breakfast wasn't easy. Freshline around the corner did sandwiches and coffee, though locals don't seem to do much in the morning. Pervak is a nice dinner option, and there are other restaurants and banks nearby. A taxi to the airport was about 650, while pickup would cost more. The location is reasonably close to the city center, though in a city this big it's hard to say exactly where that is. The neighborhood is good, with familiar-looking backyards. The room was large for the price, the bed was firm but not too hard, and the WiFi was very good. The shower had a strong flow and stayed at one temperature, but no thermostat tap. There's a little shop next door open 7 to 22. Reception staff didn't all speak good English, and they didn't know places for breakfast or dinner.

The lift goes to the sixth floor, though its 6 button was damaged when I stayed and cut my finger. I reported it to the hotel so they could tell the building manager. The hotel can be a bit tricky to spot, with just a small plaque by the entrance next to a barber's. WiFi came and went. Inside, my room was comfortable and clean, and the woman at reception was friendly and helpful. There are plenty of nice bars and places to eat nearby, including The Alchemis, though heading farther out helps avoid the tourist traps.
