Hostel Kreschatik

Khreshchatyk is just a two-minute walk away, which is the one good thing. The bedding was unpleasant even to touch, and the cleanliness of the place was a major concern. We’d booked ahead and stayed one night in October, so we just put up with it instead of spending time hunting for a more comfortable place.

$17 a night for a double room right by Teatralnaya metro, with Maidan just one stop away. I thought I’d already seen the bottom of budget accommodation, but this place managed to take me to a new low. Guess new horizons are something too!

We booked a six-bed room more than a month ahead, but other people were put in the beds we’d reserved. The person handling check-ins seemed to have no idea how bookings worked. Worst hostel service I’ve ever come across. Honestly, closing the place for good seems like the only reasonable fix.

We got there in the middle of the night with a Booking.com reservation, but there was no room for us. They said they had no computer nearby, didn’t know about any bookings, and couldn’t look ours up. So we had to find another place to stay before we’d even checked in.
