Matras Hostel

The hostel administration seems to apply different rules to different residents, and rudeness from the staff is tolerated. The owner doesn't seem to know what's going on there. Be careful if you want to avoid an unpleasant situation.

I'm furious about how this was handled. We'd booked a room while traveling from another city, but when we arrived, they said it was occupied and claimed they'd called us, though we hadn't picked up. We were left standing at the entrance in VERY cold weather. Then they offered to send us by express tram to who knows where. If someone books with you, the location matters. This was simply rude, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. You could end up being sent off on an express tram into the night.

The management are friendly, and the place is very affordable for Kyiv. They supply clean linens, and if you forget to bring them from home, they can provide a clean towel and slippers. It also has Wi-Fi and the basic amenities, including refrigerators, washing machines, and showers. I wasn't keen on the mattresses, which aren't the best quality, but they're okay for the price. Overall, it's a good, inexpensive place.

We came with our child so we could study at the university and had booked a room for two. First, we couldn't find the entrance. Then, when we called the administration, they were rude. It turned out all the rooms were occupied, and they claimed they'd called to tell us. Absurd. If I could, I'd give zero. I definitely don't recommend it.
