The views are incredible, with a full 360° outlook over Bwindi’s impenetrable forest and the Virunga volcanoes. The lodge feels like a luxurious hideaway in the middle of gorilla trekking country. The locally sourced, hand-carved furniture and artifacts are beautiful, and each piece has a story. Ask manager Wilfred, he’s happy to tell you about them. Wilfred’s team was outstanding. They carried our luggage upstairs, kept the tea coming, and seemed to anticipate everything. Alex also helped make us feel Uganda’s genuine warmth. We were welcomed with drumming, and there were community dancers around the fire pit. Fresh vegetables are grown onsite, and the place has a strong eco focus, with 100% solar power and rainwater filtration. It was one of the highlights of my visit. Highly recommended for gorilla trekking or a trip to the area.

The cottages are private, with balconies facing Bwindi Forest, and the staff were proactive and lovely. They washed our car and cleaned our trekking shoes after the gorilla trek. The food was delicious, the WiFi fast, and the lodge works well for arranging a gorilla trek. For its location, it felt luxurious. One thing to consider if you’re driving yourself: the last stretch of road up to the hotel is extremely steep. We had to get out and push our Toyota Prado 4x4.

There was so much thoughtful detail, from the stunning decor to the vegan meals. I especially loved the sunset walk, peaceful farm tour, packed lunches for gorilla trekking, and a massage on my balcony. They also helped with shoes and laundry, and I appreciated the property’s real commitment to sustainability. I had every bit of the tranquility Kaara offers, perched above the Bwindi forest. Three nights or more would be ideal to enjoy this remarkable part of the world. Barnabas, Alex, Moses, Gloria, and Wilfred were the kindest, most attentive team I’ve met. I wish I could have stayed longer and hope to return soon. Weebale, Kaara!!

After our daily outings, including gorilla trekking and Golden Monkeys, we’d settle on the terrace with sundowner drinks and snacks from Barnabas and Arakis. The restaurant team was very friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks were excellent. WiFi worked smoothly throughout. The lodge sits on a hill with beautiful views over the mountains, valleys, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. A drummer greeted us at the gate. Manager Wilfred and the staff welcomed us with smiles and refreshing towels. Moses showed us our clean, comfortable room and looked after us the whole stay, helping with laundry and bags, cleaning our hiking shoes, and leaving a hot water bottle in bed in the evenings. Thanks to the Kaara team for making us feel so welcome.

Kaara Gorilla Mountain Lodge had only been open for five months when we stayed for two nights as our base for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The warm, personal attention from the friendly and attentive staff made our visit especially enjoyable. I also appreciated the lodge’s commitment to sustainability and the local community. Our packed lunches for the trek came in reusable boxes and bottles, a thoughtful eco-friendly touch. Most of the staff are from the neighboring Kaara community, which shows the lodge’s support for the area. We had a fantastic stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting Bwindi.
