The view over Union gardens was a lovely surprise, and the hotel has plenty of character. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, but sleep was a different story. My fiance and I stayed Friday through Monday and didn't manage one good night. Clubs nearby, especially Revolution, played music so loudly that we were awake until well after 2am on all three nights, even Sunday. I was very disappointed with the stay.

The central location and very friendly staff were the main positives. The building is poorly maintained and noisy, with furniture coming apart. In room 402, the floor slopes to one side, which I've never encountered before. The price is low compared with nearby hotels, and it's clear why. For what guests get, calling this a 4-star hotel feels misleading; I wouldn't rate it even as 3-star.

The rooms are fine, though they look more luxurious than they actually are, and the location is perfect. Staff were friendly too. Breakfast was the real problem: it was all greasy fried food and sugar, and I found it inedible. I know a traditional British breakfast is a thing in Scotland, but it's 2025 and not everyone wants oily food every morning. Some people would appreciate healthier options. They could at least add hard-boiled eggs alongside the fried ones, plus fresh tomatoes or cucumbers.

The Chef makes everything from scratch now, and you can really taste the difference. Afternoon tea was delightful again today, and Natalie was so kind and attentive as our server. She deserves recognition. 10/10.

My colleagues stayed in the rear rooms and said they were silent, so I'd go back, but at the back. The view from the front is great, though the noise there is insanely loud: Revolution closes at 2am and the other club opposite stays open until 4am during the week. Staff are sound, breakfast is decent and the beds are comfy. One staff member said the rear and internal rooms are quiet, and my two colleagues can confirm it. If they invested in triple glazing at the front, this could be five-star all the way. As it stands, three stars feels generous. I may just be overtired.
