The place itself is beautiful, and the staff were great about keeping the fire going and sorting out requests. My room was nice too, though it was cold when I arrived around 5:30 pm and the heating control didn't seem to work. Turning on the radiator warmed it up. The room had good facilities, but the cobwebs on the curtains could have been cleared away. I was there for work, and the conference space was fine, if a little chilly. The food was okay during my day and a half there, though nothing especially exciting. The £14 salmon starter felt pricey for what it was. The drinks selection could use more IPAs and Guinness, as there seemed to be more alcohol-free beer than regular beer. I imagine heating an old historic building is tricky. Those are minor points, and I'd recommend a visit.

Free parking on site and an EV charger made getting there really easy. The hotel sits right beside the river, with lovely views, while town is still close enough to reach easily. It’s a peaceful, romantic setting, especially by the water in the evening. My stay was fantastic, and it’s a lovely place to unwind or mark a special occasion. Highly recommended.

Watching the snow fall from the dining room made the evening feel magical. We had a dog-friendly room overlooking the river, which was perfect. The staff were friendly, the service excellent, and the food was tasty. We’d happily go back and highly recommend this charming hotel.

We’ll certainly stay here again. The evening duck was even better than the excellent breakfast, and our room was faultless, with a bathroom finished to a very high standard. It’s an amazing 800-year-old hotel, and the modern interior has been done with taste.

The staff gave us outstanding service, and I can’t wait to return. Christmas afternoon tea was the best I’ve ever had, absolutely outstanding. The sandwiches and cakes looked lovely and tasted delicious, with really good quality ingredients. It also came with a little quiche and a small cup of tasty soup. Five stars, highly recommend.
