Schiehallion Hotel

The meal itself was nice, but service was hard to get during a very busy Saturday with the Christmas market on. There were just two staff working, one at the bar and one waitress, and although she was rushed off her feet, it took ages to catch her attention. The barman was efficient, though a smile would've helped. I've visited several times for food and overnight stays, and this time they ran out after I'd had three Kraken rums. Someone hadn't checked the bar stock ahead of a busy day, which was disappointing.

There’s a lot of character in the Schiehallion Hotel bar, with its charming old-fashioned interior. It can get pretty noisy, but it’s still a welcoming place to sit and unwind.

The Balmoral chicken was the best we’ve tasted, with succulent chicken and mash that was to die for. We walked over from the Moness holiday lodges into town for a meal, and the restaurant made a table for eight feel very welcome. The staff were helpful and attentive, and the service was excellent. Pub food here is on another level. We’d definitely visit again if passing.

The two kids enjoyed their meals and the staff were friendly, but we left disappointed after spending over £80. We'd had what was probably the best meal our family had ever had here on our first visit a year ago, so it’s a shame. This time the steak was small and overcooked, and the burger was an oddly shapeless pile of meat with a really unpleasant taste. I couldn't have another burger from here after that. We waited around 40-45 minutes, and I'm not sure I want to try again in case this wasn't just an off night. We only ate at the restaurant, not at the hotel.
