The dog-friendly policy made all the difference, and the staff were so friendly and willing to help. We had a lovely experience and really appreciated it. I was lucky enough to win the Facebook competition for a night D, B&B in January 26, which was a wonderful surprise and a bright spot in a stormy January. We got a warm welcome, and the room was cosy and comfortable. The food was delicious and generous, and the log burners in the restaurant and bar made for a lovely winter evening. We’ll be back, hopefully in better weather.

The Sticky pudding was a highlight for us. We’ve been judging it everywhere on our two-week Scotland trip, and the Boat Inn came out on top, vying for first with the Seaforth Restaurant in Ullapool. The Boat Inn’s ambiance tipped it over the top. We’d only picked the place as a cute spot to sleep between Edinburgh and Inverness, but it turned out to be the best surprise of the trip. It’s beautiful, charming and comfortable, with amazing food. I wish we’d stayed longer, and we’ll definitely come back.

Our room was on the small side, but clean, warm and comfortable. The staff were friendly, considerate and happy to help. We had a warm welcome, good food and a great atmosphere. We’ll definitely choose The Boat Inn again. Thank you.

The staff were attentive and friendly, and the location was nice. I had a delicious curry, perfectly cooked, and everything on the menu looked really good. There’s plenty of choice and the pub has a great atmosphere.

The overcooked green mush of peas and sour green slime between the fish and mash let down the haddock mornay. Veg on the side would’ve been better, and the cheese sauce was tasty but needed to be thicker. The ketchup was the worst we’ve had. The chicken burger was great, though, and so were the haddock mornay and mash apart from those issues. It sounds bad, but overall the meal was tasty. We’d probably go back, and I’d ask for the veg on the side.
