We really liked Mark, who was excellent, and the rest of the staff were friendly and knew the menu well. The pulled pork nachos and schnitzel were tasty and cooked to order. The homemade onion rings were especially impressive for their size. We dropped in for dinner and ate in the quieter restaurant at the back of the bar. The front bar seemed to be where the locals gathered. It’s dog friendly, but we noticed some locals had dogs off lead, so we left ours at home because he’s quite reactive. We’d definitely go back.

The food was freshly cooked, the prices were very reasonable, and the service was great. There was a wide choice, even for me as someone who’s gluten intolerant. We were lucky to park outside while it was pouring rain. The dining room was cosy and pleasant, and I couldn’t fault a thing. We’d definitely return.

The steak pie was the standout, with shortcrust pastry, tasty gravy and very tender beef, plus chips and vegetables to share. We both ordered it after starters, black pudding for me and spring rolls for my wife, one of the specials. We both enjoyed our starters too. We were staying at the campsite in Tarland and came to the Commercial late afternoon to see about a bar meal. We had a decent pint from local brewery Burnside, with a craft IPA and a cask option, then booked dinner in the lounge bar. We were called through, served quickly and efficiently, and the staff stayed friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We found the prices very reasonable for the ingredients and service, even though I’d seen comments about the cost. A solid five stars. I have a habit of starting my food before taking photos, so bear that in mind when looking at them.

The restaurant food tasted so nice, and the staff were wonderful. My room looked lovely and was really comfortable. I highly recommend staying here.

The peaceful setting made for a good night’s sleep, and I liked having a beer on keg by the fire. I came to mountain bike nearby and was charmed by Tarland and the Commercial. The staff were friendly and helpful from my arrival until I left. My room was clean and comfortable, with a lovely view of the hills behind and hot water whenever I needed it. The menu had plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. My squid starter was great, and the steak and Guinness pie was lovely, with big chunks of meat, cracking chips and veg. The full Scottish breakfast was delicious. I hope to come back. Thank you!
