Joanna is lovely and always gives us a great welcome. We’ve been coming to this B&B for a few years, and it’s been fantastic each time. The rooms have all been recently redecorated, and the beds are really comfortable. It’s clean and tidy, with good parking, a central Ambleside location and a great breakfast with lots of choice.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room felt fantastic and cosy. In the morning, breakfast was lovely and all the extras were great too. From the moment we walked through the door, the woman at reception was so warm and pleasant, making us feel like the most important people in the room. We’ll certainly return next time we’re in Ambleside.

I was glad I booked this B&B during shoulder season in the Lakes. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and town centre was just a short walk away. I stayed one night, on 19/11/25, travelling alone in double room no 15. I’m not sure if it’s classed as a small en suite double, but it suited me perfectly. The bed was great, and the room had plenty of tea, coffee, drinking water and hot chocolate. It was cold outside, but the room was lovely and toasty, with no road noise at all. There was plenty of parking too. Breakfast had a very good selection, though I just had cereal and toast rather than the full English.

From the friendly staff greeting you with smiles and ready to help, to the easy walk into town or along the lake, Rothay Garth was a great place to stay. The room was clean and quiet, and breakfast was top-notch. There were self-service cold items and drinks, plus hot dishes you could order at the table. I loved the Eggs Florentine, and tried some of my dad’s veggie sausage from the Full Vegetarian Breakfast, which was a sensation. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ambleside.

Our first visit was a thoroughly enjoyable two-night stay in room 7, a beautifully decorated superior room that welcomes dogs. It was a little dark without the main lights on. Breakfast was excellent, as were the staff. We had a small issue with the blind, but it was quickly sorted.
