Travelodge Ashford

We had a two-night stay, and it was the worst weekend we’ve had at a Travelodge. Children ran up and down the hallway, playing games and screaming until the early hours, while their parents didn’t seem to care. The front desk didn’t respond to my complaint. Staff did ask other noisy guests to keep it down because there were families on the floor, even though the family was making most of the noise. We also didn’t get fresh towels on the second day. We’d put the top-up sign on the door, and the cleaners were on our floor while we were out. And the charge to choose your room has gone from £3.50 to £7.00. Ridiculous.

This is my fourth stay, mainly because it’s so handy for an early Eurotunnel crossing. Travelodge isn’t a five-star hotel, but you know what you’re getting, clean and comfortable. Reception staff were very nice, parking was free, and the January price was exceptional. I’ll definitely come again.

The location was very good for seeing this part of Kent. We stayed with friends to explore the area and visit family, and had booked disabled access rooms. I won’t book those again. The beds were comfortable but small, narrow singles, so if you toss and turn in your sleep you could fall out. The rooms were clean, but smelled strongly of cheap disinfectant. I’d have preferred a wet room to a shower over the bath with grab rails. My wife felt unsafe getting in and out, and I thought the rails were positioned badly.

For a last-minute weekend booking, I was really impressed. Reception staff were friendly and attentive, and the room was clean with fresh sheets. We were on the ground floor and could hear people passing, but it didn’t really bother us. We slept well, parking was free, and there were plenty of places to get food. A lovely stay.
