The room seemed clean and cosy, with complimentary bathroom products, and the staff were friendly, though I felt anxious when one woman addressed me. Maybe I read her wrong. What upset me was the food dating. We’d paid extra for breakfast, then I noticed the breakfast pastry was past its best-before date. My one-year-old had already drunk a smoothie that was a month out of date. I only checked it after spotting the pastry date, since I’m very picky about food dates. I expected everything served at breakfast to be edible without having to check. The milk pods in the room were also out of date by much longer. One item might have been a mistake, but three different consumables past their dates left me feeling that customer care was lacking.

A clean, comfortable and excellent-value B&B. The family room was fantastic and just right for a quick stopover before catching the ferry to Arran.

The bed was very comfortable, and the room came with complimentary tea and coffee. There was also a shower in the bathroom, with free soap, shower gel and shampoo. The owners were very friendly and let me check in early. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the town centre, which was a very good location for me. If I didn’t live so far away, I’d stay here again.

There were eight of us, four couples, staying one night during our cycle challenge, and we all gave it 10/10. David and his wife Shona gave us a wonderful Scottish welcome and couldn’t do enough to help. They were friendly, accommodating and suggested a great Italian place down the road, Aldente, as well as places to visit on our way to the next destination. The B&B was beautifully furnished and immaculate, and breakfast had a delicious range of choices. One of the nicest B&Bs we’ve stayed in.

For a guesthouse, £160 for one night with breakfast felt a little pricey, though it was the Ayr Air Show weekend. The bed and room were nice and clean overall, and the owners were pleasant and easy to approach.
