The sea view and relaxed atmosphere made lunch especially nice. We’d booked ahead, so there was no wait, and the staff were attentive and polite. There were plenty of light lunch choices, with afternoon tea available too. It was quiet when we arrived but much busier by the time we left. I had the vegetable flatbread, my husband chose the fish finger sandwich, and we finished with lovely coffee and scones.

We went for a long weekend as a birthday surprise for my husband, and had a lovely stay. The staff were welcoming, friendly and courteous, and both breakfast and dinner were very good. The room was nice, though it could use a few small touch-ups: chipped paint on the wall and cleaner window frames.

The food was a real plus. Breakfast had plenty of hot choices as well as a cold buffet, and dinner was tasty with generous portions. The haggis tower was very good. The hotel was clean throughout, and both rooms were spacious and comfortable. There’s no lift, so call ahead if mobility is an issue. Without transport, we found it about a slow 20-minute walk from the train station. Our first evening was noisy because of building work. We told a helpful female receptionist, who apologised profusely and arranged for us to move to the Carnegie Suite. We hadn’t known about it, and it was a dream: a four-poster bed with a great mattress and bedding, a two-person jacuzzi bath, two sinks and a big shower. We both slept much better, including my partner, who’d been snoring loudly in my ear. Huge thanks to that woman, and sorry I didn’t get her name. We only have good things to say, would recommend the hotel and stay again.

The sea view from the comfy, quite plush surroundings was lovely, and we had a great afternoon with friends. There was loads of tasty food, plus bottomless tea. We started with a small cup of hot soup and hot sausage rolls, then had a little smoked salmon brioche bun and lots of sandwiches. Each of us got two small scones, one fruit and one plain, with skooshy cream and jam. The very sweet, decadent treats at the end were a lovely selection. Wow, we’ll definitely return. Thanks for such a lovely afternoon!

The best part was getting home and finally sleeping. The Carnegie suite itself was lovely, and I couldn’t fault the room or the hotel’s location, but the noise was awful. Our door was right beside the leisure club entrance, which opens at 7am, so we were woken by it opening and closing. If you were lucky enough to get to sleep, foot traffic and clattering doors carried on through the night. I’d avoid this place for a quiet night away.
