Western House

We booked an overnight stay at the last minute to be nearer the ferry, and our friends who stayed too felt the same as we did. The evening meal and breakfast were superb, and we couldn't fault the food, accommodation or staff. The hotel itself is exceptional, with a great location and a lovely entrance and reception area. We'd just come from a so-called four-star place in Fort William, and the difference in standards was huge. The staff should be proud of how they represent the hotel. Hopefully we'll come back for a longer stay.

We were here for a wedding, and it was very easy to find with sat nav. The staff were so polite and helpful. The vanilla latte was lovely, and the canapes and wedding meal were fabulous. The master of ceremonies did an amazing job.

The location was great, only a 15 minute walk from Ayr centre, and I would definitely come back, but I'd ask for a room in the main building. We were in a separate building, and I don't think it should be rated the same as the main hotel. The main building is beautiful, and the rooms were very clean and spacious. Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating every time we dealt with them. Breakfast was lovely, with buffet service for two mornings and table service on Monday. But the robes advertised weren't there, and the three of us had just four pillows and two towels. The rooms were far too warm. Opening the windows meant we couldn't sleep because boy racers on the nearby road revved their engines all night. That's not the hotel's fault, but it was still a nuisance. The hall light is sensor activated and lit up the room whenever anyone entered the building, which was every 30 minutes one night.

The young male waiters were clearly new and could use more training, but they were very pleasant. We had to ask for steak knives for the two people having steak, and for water for the table. My lemon Sole was very good, as was the mango cheesecake with coconut ice cream. We all enjoyed the meals and will be back soon. It's a really lovely place.
