The gardens are beautifully kept, and the room was huge, well appointed and thoughtfully decorated. The hotel itself feels modern while still fitting the building and its surroundings, and the food was a real highlight. The goat’s cheese parfait with cashew crumb and beetroot was an amazing starter, and the fish and chips were excellent too. I found the cocktails a little off balance: the bramble was too sweet, while the Cosmo was too sharp with lime. Service in the restaurant was a bit slow. It seemed to be staffed mainly by 16 year olds who could bring food out but didn’t seem able to take orders. The ghost room was a nice touch, and I’d thoroughly recommend the hotel.

The views were lovely, and the staff were great. I’ve had a very good steak sandwich here before, but this time the beefburger was hard and not good. The chips and chutney were nice, though the burger was only cooked well done. Such a great location.

The service and food were fantastic, and the tower has been modernised in a way that works well for an old building. The frosted-glass toilet door might disconcert some people, and the rooms can feel a little chilly in January. By evening, though, it was toasty. We had an atmospheric getaway during a wind-whipped weekend, in a quieter part of the north coast. A good blend of old and new, with only minor inconvenience.

We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded, and the welcome from Scott in his absence and his team was fantastic. The food and entertainment were lovely too. Breakfast was very busy and the staff were under pressure, but they coped admirably. We’ve just got home from a wonderful stay at Ballygally Castle Hotel, and we’ll definitely be back.

The food was excellent, with plenty of choice and enough to meet any needs. Some of the temporary staff seemed confused, but otherwise it was a great set-up. There was enough parking for everyone, and the location is beautiful. Santa gave presents to all the kids, and we weren’t rushed at all. A lovely Christmas Sunday carvery, highly recommended.
