The course itself has a good, interesting layout and makes for a challenging round. We got a lovely welcome on a beautiful day, 3 April 2025, so it started off with real promise. But the condition was shocking, just as the photos show. The tees were scruffy and uneven, while the fairways were mostly hard, bare mud with tufts of grass. The greens were poor compared with the two courses I played the week before. Looking down a fairway with no definition, it felt more like a field than a golf course. Charging visitors £35 for this is a disgrace.

The halfway house is hard to beat, with friendly, helpful staff serving lovely snacks, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and, in summer, cold beer. This spread-out parkland course has plenty of character, a different challenge on every hole, and some spectacular views. The best one is from the 18th, looking toward The Mansion House. The grounds team works from the early hours in all conditions and takes care of the course as well as possible despite difficult circumstances.

I really enjoy playing at Broome Park. It’s one of Kent’s prettiest courses, with a different view on every hole, and the greens are generally in excellent condition. I’ve been a member for four years and have seen a lot of improvement, with the greenkeepers working hard to keep making progress. In winter, worm casts can leave mud on the fairways, as they do for everyone. Fairway mats could help protect them from divots. Most tees are very good, though one or two crowned ones could use some flattening. The halfway house is lovely for a coffee and bacon roll, especially in summer. A covered outdoor seating area would be useful when the weather’s bad.

The recent weather had left the course a bit soggy, but £35 for a round felt reasonable. It’s a very decent course in a lovely setting. I’ll play here again.

The views are amazing, with the mansion in sight, and I loved both the parkland course and the pros. They organised a thorough training session without too much fuss, and were easy to reach by email or phone. Make sure to try the afternoon tea!
