The Old Well is a local of ours for plenty of reasons. It's very dog friendly, has Sky Sports on multiple screens, and offers a great choice of Cask Ales. Original Budweiser at £3 a pint is hard to argue with. We always get a very warm welcome at this traditional pub.

There were only a handful of people in when I stopped by that afternoon, which surprised me with some ales at just £2.70 a pint. It looks like an old English pub and has a wide choice of drinks, with plenty of beers at the bar and spirits behind it. They serve meals too, and have live music on occasion.

Breakfast was moderate, and although there was plenty on the full English, it wasn't good. We were told to be on time for our 8.30 slot, but it arrived at 9.00. After one night we couldn't wait to leave, and we would certainly never return. I don't think the owners have inspected the rooms for a while, or they'd get things sorted. The entrance hall was dated and shabby. Bedroom No 1 was a disgrace, with a number hanging off the door, cobwebs all over, a grubby-looking carpet and dated decor. The mattress seemed to have lost its spring years ago, the pillows had no filling, and there was a pervasive damp smell. The bathroom was disgusting. The toilet was loose and its seat was hanging off. The electric towel radiator was rusted and shouldn't pass a safety check. The shower head came up to chest level, its holder was broken, and the boarding around the pipes was hanging off and broken. The toilet brush looked like you'd need a chem suit to touch it. We stayed one night and wished from the start that we'd gone somewhere else.

We had nowhere else to stay for one night, and it spoiled our weekend. The bathroom was disgusting, with mould on the wall, panels under the sink hanging off and a toilet seat off. The rooms badly need deep cleaning, and there was no sign cleaning products had been used. The bedroom floor felt as though there was a hole under the carpet. I don't know how this has passed any health and safety regulations.

A lovely, comfortable, old-fashioned pub with a good choice of cask ales and draft beers. A selection of the ales is £2.70 on Mondays and Tuesdays.
