I was shocked by the way I was treated after spending my money there. I recently moved to barrow after buying several properties and, since I’m new to the area, I’d been eating alone. This weekend I ate in the restaurant, paid my bill and left, then came back later for one drink. When I returned today, I was told I was barred because they said I hadn’t paid for the meal. I thought it must be a mistake and offered to pay straight away, but they wouldn’t let me settle it. Instead, someone shouted at me to get out and called me a thief in front of other customers. He wouldn’t listen or discuss it. I went back offering to show my bank statements and pay, since I hadn’t known about any unpaid transaction, but he said he didn’t want me in his business and refused to take my complaint. I’m 49 and have had facial reconstruction surgery. I believe I was treated this way because of how my face looks and that the staff made an unacceptable judgment about me. I’ve eaten out alone seven days a week for 20 years and have never been accused of stealing in public or barred because of my facial appearance. I feel this falls short of the 2010 equality act and intend to take it further. I’m horrified that I was judged so poorly because of my facial disability and spoken to like that in front of other customers. The young staff seemed immature and looked at me as though something was wrong because I was eating alone or have a facial disability. The person I spoke to had no customer service or people skills.

We had a fabulous stay at the townhouse, and getting upgraded was a lovely way to start the weekend. The room was gorgeous, and the food and drinks at the bar were really good too. Thanks, Matt. I’d recommend staying here and will definitely be back!

For four nights of work nearby, this was a comfortable and practical base. The room suited a longer stay well, with plenty of space, a very comfortable bed and a handy walk-in wardrobe. The spotless bathroom had a powerful shower and fluffy towels, which were especially welcome after long days. The kitchenette had a kettle, toaster and fridge for making simple food and snacks. A microwave would have made it more useful for a four-day visit. A few practical things could be improved. The bathroom mirror has no light, so it wasn’t ideal for applying make-up. The guest Wi-Fi didn’t work while I was there, and I used my own mobile data. The hotel car park, a short walk away, was full each day, so I parked in nearby public car parks instead. They’re free from 6pm to 8am, which was manageable, though dedicated parking would have been easier. Still, a very good, clean and comfortable stay for a work trip.

Everything we needed was in the room, including a fridge, sink, table, iron and ironing board, and the shower was great. The bed was very comfortable too. The hotel is right in the middle of the high street, with bars and restaurants only minutes away on foot. Parking is just a two-minute walk away, which is handy. The restaurant has lovely decor, good-sized portions and reasonable prices. Great value all round.
